Situation:
A frontal rain band moves east of the North Island today, with showery westerlies following behind for western and southern areas of both islands. On Saturday, a ridge of high pressure moves onto New Zealand from the Tasman Sea. The ridge remains over northern and central New Zealand on Sunday, while a fast moving front moves over southern New Zealand, followed by a period of strong west to southwest winds. The front moves over the remainder of the country on Monday, with southwest winds easing later in the day as a new ridge of high pressure moves onto the country from the Tasman Sea. A new front is expected to reach Westland and Fiordland by Tuesday, while a high pressure cell moves across the upper North Island.
